Historically, the cost of Microlight insurance was determined by the perceived risk. Like all flying, it was considered to be relatively high risk - so either premiums were loaded or limited to third party only.
Being Microlight pilots ourselves we believe that microlight pilots are professional and cautious and the risks are lower than perceived. That is why Onrisk have sourced their own insurance provider to try and give microlight pilots a fairer deal.
Microlight flying is fully regulated by the BMAA and modern microlight craft can be one of the easiest ways to get airborne. Microlights have become a stable, safer and more-recognised form of flying. Microlight competitions are increasing as microlight clubs and microlight associations are springing up and developing under the guidance of The British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA).
Microlight Insurance - what does it cover?
Onrisk Microlight Hull & Liability insurance covers legal liability for damages and legal costs arising out of third party loss, injury, or damage in connection with microlight flying. Unlike many policies the cover can also apply whilst you are taking part in organised events and competitions. The premiums payable for Onrisk liability insurance are minimal compared to the damages that could be awarded as part of a liability settlement. Club and Group Microlight insurance is also available on request.
