Gyroplane Pilot & Liability Insurance

Currently there are less than 100 gyroplanes in the UK. However the robustness and stability of the new craft is giving rise to an upsurge in interest and Clubs are forming across the UK.


To date, insurance has been hard to get, mostly because of lack of volume demand to interest the big insurers, but also because little is understood about this fledgling sport even though gyroplanes have been around over 100 years, precede the helicopter and have a far higher safety record.


Also called autogyros, gyrocopters and rotaplanes, the gyroplane has been researched extensively by Onrisk and is considered a limited risk which is why Onrisk have sourced their own insurance provider to try and give gyroplane pilots a fairer deal. Hull insurance is being sorted currently and we hope to offer this soon.


Gyroplane flying is fully regulated by the CAA and modern gyroplane craft can be one of the easiest ways to get airborne and competitions are increasing as gyroplane clubs and gyroplane associations are springing up and developing under the guidance of The British Rotor Association (BRA).


Gyroplane Insurance - what does it cover?

Onrisk Gyroplane Pilot & Liability insurance covers legal liability for damages and legal costs arising out of third party loss, injury, or damage in connection with Gyroplane flying. The cover also applies whilst you are taking part in organised events and competitions. The premiums payable for Onrisk liability insurance are minimal compared to the damages that could be awarded as part of a liability settlement. Club and Group Gyroplane insurance is also available on request.


This is annual Gyroplane insurance cover for

  • Liability for accidental bodily injury to passengers of the insured Gyroplane and for loss of or damage to passengers' baggage and personal articles arising out of an accident to the insured Gyroplane.
  • Liability for accidental bodily injury to third parties and accidental loss of or damage to property caused by the insured Gyroplane.
  • Optional Pilot Personal Accident cover
  • Additional coverage for licence up-rating flights of permitted Gyroplane pilots, maintenance flights and Certificate of Airworthiness flights.
  • Coverage includes Liability arising from the use of airfields out of their notified hours of use, subject to the owner/operator of such airfield's prior permission and approval.
